Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

GRE is a multiple choice test for applicants interested in admission into graduate schools.

This is mandatory for the students who wish to pursue a Masters Degree or PhD in USA. This test is administered by The Educational Testing Service (ETS), under the sponsorship of the Graduate Record Examination board.

The GRE revised General Test is a Computer-Based Test (CBT). The overall testing time for the GRE revised General Test is about 3 hours and 45 minutes, plus short breaks. There are six sections to the revised test:

  • One Analytical Writing section with two separately timed writing tasks – a) Analyze an Issue task: 30mins b) Analyze an Argument task: 30mins on a 0 – 6 Scale in ½ Point Increment.
  • Two Verbal Reasoning sections, approximately 20 questions per section and 30mins would be given for each section on a 130–170 score scale in 1 Point Increment.
  • Two Quantitative Reasoning sections, approximately 20 questions per section and 35mins would be given for each section on a 130- 170 score scale in 1 Point Increment.
  • One unscored section, typically a Verbal Reasoning or Quantitative Reasoning section, that may appear at any point in the computer- based GRE revised General Test.
  • An identified research section that is not scored may also be included in the computer based GRE revised General Test.
